Selection of Brake Device on Overhead Crane and Gantry Crane

1. The type of braking device
Brake device on overhead crane and gantry crane mainly composed of rack of brake device, head rock device, brake release device and friction pair (such as brake wheel, brake block etc. ) .According to the difference of brake device function in mode of construction ,could divide into block brake of radial direction function, belt brake, tellurium brake and disk brake of axial function. According to the difference of working condition about brake device, could divide into normally engaged brake which is usually on the brake condition and normally disengaged brake which is often brake release condition. But in the crane industry, in order to make sure the safety of crane, often adopt the normally engaged brake device rather than the normally disengaged brake .In the same time, According to the difference of motion pattern, could divide into automatic function type, manipulation, integrative.
In generally speaking, overhead crane and gantry crane use two types brake device, one is lifting driving device for potential energy, the other is translation driving device for kinetic energy. So that the brake device of overhead crane and gantry crane also could divide into the brake device for potential energy, and the brake device for kinetic energy.

2. Selection principle of Brake Device
When we select the brake device of overhead crane and gantry crane, we need to think about the job nature and conditions about the overhead crane and gantry crane. For example, the overhead crane and gantry crane used to lifting the molten metal or flammable and explosive product, the lifting device of crane must setup two sets brake device. Each of the brake device could make sure it safety to support the molten metal or flammable and explosive couldn’t drop. In the same time, when you select the sliding frictional brake device, you should consider the cooling process. Enlarge the radiating surface, to heat emission the hot temperature what is the crane to move effecting potential energy.
Secondly, we should consider the size of braking torque in the brake device about the overhead crane and gantry crane. As is mentioned above, the crane lifting the molten metal or flammable and explosive, its brake device of lifting mechanism must have enough margin. That is to say it have safety factor. The brake device of crane traveling mechanism, its braking torque should be safety the process requirement, shouldn’t too large. That is to say in some degree of the braking torque or time, the crane could not slip and the braking process has small vibration.
