Evaluate the Condition of Your Chain Sling
When you have an alloy steel chain sling or attachment repaired, what is the next step? You determine whether or not the repair was accurate, of course!
Certain types of repairs and tests—like welding or heat testing—can repair a sling to its original operating structure. However, it is important to test new equipment before using it. Until a sling has been fully tested and approved by a qualified person, it should not be put back into service.
Inspections: Repairing and reconditioning alloy steel chain slings
Worn or damaged alloy steel chain slings or attachments shall not be used until repaired. When welding or heat testing is performed, slings shall not be used unless repaired, reconditioned and proof tested by the sling manufacturer or an equivalent entity.
